Text Box: Miriam Yamileth Macoto

Miriam was the very first child to come live at the Good Shepherd Children's Home. She and her older sister Rosa Maria came here in August of 1998.  She was born March 16, 1994. She weighed only 10 pounds at 41/2 years old. She was very weak and could not walk. We could feel every bone in her tiny body. We knew that she would have to spend time in a hospital or she would die. It was discovered that while she lived in her village, her mother would abuse her and her sister physically and verbally. She would leave Miriam tied to a chair during the day not allowing her to have food or water.
Miriam was so sick and full of rage when she came to us. She would kick, scream, claw and even try to bite. If she couldn't reach us she would bite herself.   She would even scream out that she wanted to kill us.
Miriam remained in the hospital for over a month and then we were informed that they could not do any more for her. They told us that she probably would not survive but that maybe showing her love would help. Showing God's love has done wonders in Miriam's life. Because of that love, she is still with us today, growing stronger each day.
Miriam is now a very active and happy little girl. She has gained so much weight and is so healthy.  She is a precious little girl and very sweet natured. Never do we hear the screams of hate or see the fits of anger. She now attends school and seems to be a very bright little girl. We look forward to seeing what God has in store for her life.
