The Good Shepherd Children's Home

A new extension of The Good Shepherd Christian Academy
For three or more years now, Laurie, Greg, and teachers have had a dream of opening a vocational area within our school for the older boys who will need to have labor skills for the time in their lives when they are no longer at The Good Shepherd Children’s Home. The students attending will be those who are passed the legal Honduran age for the school and/or just not academically inclined. The government has gotten stricter about students over age in school so we are starting the trade school classes now.
We have 12 in our first class. It is a two year course where they will learn “hands on” in masonry, carpentry, electricity, welding, typical roof design, etc.  We are hoping to have an established vocational school in Tegucigalpa come out and agree to certify us so they graduate with an accredited diploma; they will receive a diploma from us, but with the help of an accredited established school on their resume for job hunting would be better.

We need lots of help with shop supplies and funds to buy wood, cement, work aprons, etc.  The Bill Gamble team has given us a leg-up by putting cabinets in our workshop to store our tools. The shop class name is “Taller de Formación Laboral” or Labor Skills Workshop.
