The Good Shepherd Children's Home

THE TRANSITION

Change is hard. It takes us out of our comfort zone and thrust us into the unknown. We have approximately 25 young adults at our Children’s Home that are about to embark on a journey into the unknown.  Our “babies” are growing up. Many are 18 or older and it’s time to leave the safety of “home.” For many, the Good Shepherd Children’s Home is the first safe place they’ve ever known. For the first time in their lives they did not have to dig in a dumpster for food, they did not have to sleep on the street at night, they did not have to worry about being sold into slavery, they did not have to go to bed at night feeling guilty and dirty from the things that were done to their little bodies, and it’s the only place they ever felt the love of Jesus.
Please pray for our “babies” as they must, once again, learn to live on their own. As you can imagine, when we delivered this news to them two weeks ago, they were pretty upset and scared. Please pray for them (and us) as we work WITH them to help make the transition as smooth as possible. For some, this means helping them learn a trade, start a business, get a job in the city, or further their education. Our main obstacle at this point is finding a safe place for them to live in the city. Ultimately, we would love to have a “transitional home” that would provide a safe environment closer to the city (for transportation purposes) where they could live until they complete their training, education, and/or find a job. We are also looking for sponsors for each child. We know God will provide what is needed in HIS timing.
Please pray for me as I counsel with them and walk with them through this scary door.
Gracias! -Marty Edwards
